| Q. How often
should I come in for fills? A. You should schedule an appointment approximately every two weeks, unless instructed otherwise by your manicurist.
Q. Do I have to know anything special about having artificial nails on? A. Yes. Rule of thumb is... Treat your nails like jewels, NOT tools.
Q. If I get a lift, can I just glue my nail until my next appointment? A. Preferably, NO! A repair only takes approximately fifteen (15) minutes. However should this happen and you positively can not make it to your manicurist make sure your nail is completely dry, apply a dab of alcohol to dehydrate the nail plate then apply the glue and nail tip. NOTE: If you glue and you still have moisture on your nail plate and apply the tip your more likely to develop the Greenies!
Q. Can I get Mold/Fungus/Greenies from a Nail Salon? A. NO! Mold/fungus/Greenies are usually caused when moisture seeps between the acrylic and the nail. Drying your hand complete especially around the cuticle and checking your nails for lifts can help prevent this from happening.
Q. What type of infection can I get, if any from a Salon? A. If a nail tech does not sterilize his/her implements and pushes back on your cuticles too hard with it, you may develop runaround. The disease term of this called PARONYCHIA. Symptoms of said disease is redness, soreness and swelling around the nail. Soaking your hands in equal parts peroxide and hot water for approximately 20 minutes for 3 days will make this go away. If symptoms continue see a doctor immediately.
| Q. I have gone
to different salons and they have told me the yellow or green spots
under my acrylic is nothing to worry about and they usually file it
and apply new acrylic. Why are they not concerned? A. I don't know, they should be! Depending on the severity you shouldn't allow them to continue to put acrylic over your infected nail. Your nail can become black and permanently damaged your nail and nail bed, if not treated properly. |
Q. What should I do if I see greenies developing? A. Take a cotton swab with alcohol and apply to affected nail. This will remove the moisture. If you cannot remove the nail, make an appointment to get it removed and get the proper treatment.
Q. How can I tell if my nail tech is sterilizing their implements? A. Ask to see their sterilizer and the solution used to sterilize the implements. In addition, be aware of where they pull their implements from. Is it from a sterilize drawer where other implements are kept, or do they use the same one that is on their work table, or maybe from a jar with fluid in it. |
Q. Is their anyway to find out if my manicurist has had anyone complain about them? A. Yes, you can contact your State Board and have them check. This would also be the people you would want to call to make a complaint about. More likely the information is only if they have had to do an investigation on the person. Word of mouth is the best way to find out more about where to find a good manicurist and who to stay away from.
